This peaceful solo piano setting keeps the familiar hymn melody clear and unornamented. Multi-octave arpeggios frame the hymn statements, while richer inner voices and a fuller central passage bring warmth and depth before a quiet final return. The arrangement is in E major, using the MEDITATION tune by John H. Gower.
Playing this arrangement
Let the melody sing above the moving accompaniment, with gentle pp–p attacks in the upper right hand. Shape each arpeggio as a single long phrase, allow room at the arrivals, and listen carefully to the inner voices and pedal changes. Keep the final return intimate and the ending tender.

How difficult is There Is a Green Hill Far Away?
Advanced. Wide arpeggios and passages shared between the hands call for secure movement across registers. The hymn sections require independent voicing, controlled soft attacks, and clean pedaling. Expressive rubato should preserve the direction of each phrase.
These are descriptive playing levels, not examination grades. Preview the score and listen to the complete recording to judge the demands for your own hands and experience.
